Blog Update #5

The biggest ICT challenge Canadian enterprises will face over the next 10 years will be the growing need for more and more ICT. As Canadian enterprises grow, expand, and even start up, each enterprise will require ICT specialists to control and maintain their ICT although the question will be, are there enough people with this specialty? There are currently plenty of employees who fit this sector well but as the baby boomer generation begins to retire there will require increasingly more ICT specialists and there simply are less and less who are fully trained with the newest and most advanced technology. Keeping up with the advancing technology will also be difficult. ICT specialists will have to continue to be trained as technology is always expanding and becoming more in depth and complicated. Canadian enterprises will have to account for these changes and be prepared to always have new training available for the ICT specialists they can recruit.

Blog Update #4

Software engineers use computer science and math to create computer software such as computer games, computer software and business applications. By designing, testing, and evaluating their work, they are able to create the computer software that we all use today.

Business analysts analyze existing software and information from a variety of departments and people to decide whether or not the software is working properly. They act as a translator between the needs of the business and what the software is capable of doing.

I would rather be a business analyst because I prefer the idea of analyzing business systems already created compared to creating and applying the principles of computer science that create the business systems.

Working with math and complex systems on a daily basis does not sound appealing, I prefer to compare, contrast and work with business systems already created to evaluate their effectiveness within the organization. I feel my personal strengths would be of greater use as a business analyst because my complex math skills are nor strong enough and I do not enjoy the challenges.

Blog Update #3

Near field communication scares me the most because you never know what technologies are picking up information off of your personel. When this technology gets in the hands of the wrong people, it is much easier for things such as identity theft, credit card theft and information theft to occur without you even knowing. Yes, this can make life much easier in some circumstances such as paying via credit card or gaining entrance through a key a card but your vulnerability is extremely high and protecting yourself can be difficult.

I don't want the network to know my name or my personal address because as long as I remain "anonymous" but can still be placed in certain categories to gain information that may be relevant to my life, the network can still be beneficial without gaining or being able to release more personal information. By keeping this information private, it keeps personal security much stronger and it is more difficult to have "too" much information out there about yourself. If I want my name and address in the netwrok that is my decision but unless I know my information is being distributed, I would rather the network not know my name or address.

The context in which I feel about network intelligence is the safety and security of the advancements in network intelligence. As technology continues to grow and everything become "easier to use", the amount of security used between the technologies and their network intelligence decreases. I feel we need to find a more secure way to use network intelligence for our benefit without having to worry about personal security.

Blog Update #2

I think petGRO should use PC for the company.

As our objectives are to create a simple online format for consumers to order products online, PC software is compatible with more computers than programs formatted by Mac.

We will be able to reach out to a greater audience by using computer programs from PC's. For the specific department I work for, customer service, PC's would be more practical because we are formatting feedback, processing returns and reimbursements and working to satisfy our customers which PC's are have a better variety of software to use. Mac's are more well know for other departments that need creativity and who want to attract the consumer visually such as the marketing department. For the majority of our company, the use of programs offered by PC are much more practical and useful for achieving our goals.

Blog Update #1

I think our Sales, Marketing and ISTD FAs should focus their development and targeting for desktop towards the use of Windows and Internet Explorer because:

• Windows has remained extremely stable over the past two years and is projected to to remain stable
• Windows dominates the overall market for desktops because most company's use this software
• Internet Explorer dominates the overall market and comes pre-installed so employees use the same software 
• Optimizing our website for windows based browsers will be the most effective method to meet the broadest range of end users

I think our Sales, Marketing and ISTD FAs should focus their development and targeting for mobility/tablets towards the use of iOS systems because:

• iOS has remained extremely stable over the past year and is projected to remain the most widely used system
• Blackberry is continuing to decline in use and iOS systems are continuing to grow
• Having a consistent company phone will allow employees to increase productivity by utilizing exclusive iOS applications.
• The company should develop an app for the iOS system, taking advantage of the large number of end users in the marketplace and inside the company.
